چکیده

We incorporate externalities into the stable matching theory of two-sided markets: We establish the existence of stable matchings provided that externalities are positive and agents’ choices satisfy substitutability, and we show that the standard insights of matching theory, such as the existence of side optimal stable matchings and the rural hospitals theorem, remain valid despite the presence of externalities even though the standard fixedpoint techniques do not apply. Furthermore, we establish novel comparative statics on externalities.

Stable Matching with Externalities for Beamforming and User Assignment in Multi-cell MISO Systems

We consider the problem of distributed joint user association and beamforming in multi-cell multiple-input singleoutput systems. Assuming perfect local channel state information, each base station applies a distributed beamforming scheme called WSLNR-MAX [1] which depends on the user association in the network. We determine the user association by a proposed stable matching with externalities a...

Many-to-one matching markets with externalities among firms

We study a labor market described by a many-to-one matching market with externalities among firms in which each firm’s preferences depend not only on workers whom it hires, but also on workers whom its rival firms hire. We define a new stability concept called weak stability and investigate its existence problem. We show thatwhen the preferences of firms satisfy an extension of substitutability ...

Peer Effects and Stability in Matching Markets

Many-to-one matching markets exist in numerous different forms, such as college admissions, matching medical interns to hospitals for residencies, assigning housing to college students, and the classic firms and workers market. In all these markets, externalities such as complementarities and peer effects severely complicate the preference ordering of each agent. Further, research has shown tha...

Matching Games with Additive Externalities

Two-sided matchings are an important theoretical tool used to model markets and social interactions. In many real life problems the utility of an agent is influenced not only by their own choices, but also by the choices that other agents make. Such an influence is called an externality. Whereas fully expressive representations of externalities in matchings require exponential space, in this pa...

Optimal Unemployment Insurance in a Matching Equilibrium: The Role of Congestion and Thick-Market Externalities

This paper characterises optimal unemployment insurance (UI) and optimal tax policy in an equilibrium matching framework where job search effort is unobserved by the Planner. Policy design takes into account congestion externalities (greater job search effort by an individual worker reduces the re-employment rate of other competing job seekers) and thick market externalities (greater job creati...
